List five songs that you are currently digging... it doesn't matter what genre they are from, whether they have words or even if they're any good but they must be songs you're really enjoying right now. Post these instructions, the artist and the song in your blog along with your five songs. Then tag five other people to see what they're listening to. up:

Soul Food for the Midweek
Busy, busy, busy week. It's the mid-week and I have tons of work to do. =(
So just a couple of minutes back, I was browsing some posts on my
Friendster Bulletin, and I was moved by this short message. After reading it, you'll certainly see things the same way that
Charles Schulz did. Hmmm.... =)
up:

The following is the philosophy of Charles Schulz, the creator of the "Peanuts" comic strip. You don't have to actually answer the questions. Just read the instructions straight through, and you'll get the point.
1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.
2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.
3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America.
4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.
5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winner for best actor and actress.
6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners.
How did you do?
The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday. These are no second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields. But the applause dies. Awards tarnish. Achievements are forgotten. Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.
Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one:
1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.
2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.
3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.
4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.
5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.
Easier?
The lesson: The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones that care.
"Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia." (Charles Schulz)***Impact!!!

I just need to blurt it out!!!
Once again, the Philippines is stuck in a deep socio-political pit. Thanks to our leaders who never learned from the lessons of this country’s long history of economic injustice, socio-political unrest, and bureaucratic corruption. up:
gucci handbagsThe most recent scandal that led Gloria Arroyo to blurt out those sacrilegious remarks during an interview with Time has put the Philippines once again in the global map; and sure for the nth time, a principal matter of interest under the category of political hilarity.
GMA and her allies were evidently involved in last year’s (not so shockingly new) electoral fraud, so were those from other political parties. Some even have the nerve to be overly pompous.
Sayang at masakit man isipin, pero number one
ka Nene Pimentel!!!
Ang kakapal ng mukha nyo! Pare-pareho lang kayo!EDSA People Power 2’s was a sublime advocacy malevolently squandered. I had high hopes for our country, then. Back in college, I courageously took on the challenge to walk out of my class and unite with the rest to oust a dissolute leader. “ERAP PACK UP!!!” It was fulfilling to be part of this momentous event. Now, every great memory seems washed out from my consciousness.
Nakakahiya!!! I don’t really know where this country is headed for. It’s just very frustrating that ordinary people like myself, who dream of better states for their families and work so hard to realize that sweet thought, get battered most by this filthy gamble that politicians lay their ridiculous bets on. With all these dirty tactics, I just wonder if they ever get restful at night.
What do we expect in the next few days? Another destabilization plot from these notoriously power-obsessed personalities? I’m praying for a miracle that the Angels of Death come down from the Heavens to take away their evil souls to be instantaneously cast into the blazing Inferno.
I am so much consumed with disillusionment about what’s happening in our society. Ironically, savoring democracy in a nation infested by governmental leeches and roaches is self-flagellation!
Aaaaarrrrrrrgggggghhhhhh!!!!!!!!

Tunog Lokal
For no reason, I passed by Tower Records at Glorietta after
umatak ang pagkakuripot ko sa Bibliarch (
di na bumili ng kahit anong book). So, I realized just now that it was another round of impulse buying...err...not really.
Sige na nga impulse buying dahil 740 bucks gone in 5 minutes...hehe! =)Well unconsciously, I've long wanted to buy their CDs, so I still rave about getting copies of
Mishka Adams' loungy "God Bless The Child" and
Cynthia Alexander's hypnotic "Comet's Tail!" Blame it on my crazed excitement for that upcoming event at El Pueblo. up:

Anyway, after two hours of unpaid overtime work with Mishka's and Cynthia's music just playing on my background,
I proclaim to the entire world that these are two of my best purchases for all seasons!!! O.A.!!! haha!
I'll try to catch their performances this Saturday at
Fête de la Musique, so they can sign on my CDs. hehe!
Forever solid, intergalactic, magnetic fan

Images of Kansai
Arlo invited me to his place after a hearty dinner at the newly opened Dencio's right across CCP. Even a sleepover was not enough to share all those Kansai stories. I know how the guy misses the place since he came back in Manila after a year studying at the
Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific Univerisity in the Kyoto Prefecture. So, I hope these images capture all those great Kansai memories. up:

Back to Old Ways at the Virgin Labfest
Saw some plays featured at the
Virgin Labfest Friday night at the
CCP Tanghalang Batute and it felt good to be back to one of my old ways. It took sometime since I had the same cultural undertaking back in the university.
Striking theses, impressive production, remarkable casting, and great directing! Congratulations to everyone behind this wonderful project! up:

I have to thank the director of “Ars Poetica,” none other than my good friend Arlo, for his “affable summons” to witness this trilogy exploring tainted minds and demented sexual obsession. Just for everyone's information, Arlo, a close friend of ours during those naïve high school days and scholarly moments at
UP, has a great artistic influence on us. He’s bridged the (beyond infinity) gap between the tangible and the intangible in our behalf. He’s simply a soliloquy incarnate that is abstractly hallucinogenic.
Oh well, you did it again! I’d run out of fine adjectives to describe that kind of genius!!!

Philippine Education System on Horror Roll...
Still in relation to the school opening day horror, the results on the latest National Achievement Test taken by the country's public high school seniors were not so shocking.

Good luck to our friend Arlo for another directorial stint!!! =)
School Opening Day Horror
guMost classes at all school levels will resume on June 7, Monday. I expect to see images of school opening day horror in most public schools in the metro. It's sad to think that this country's government has never made education of its people a priority investment. Take for instance the number of elementary pupils sharing a textbook. Where in the civilized Southeast Asia could you find such a poor scene? It's depressing how statistics show the youth's ranking second to Asia's least competent in the Sciences. up:
gucci handbagsRegardless of all my exaggeration, the point is that the Philippine government should take the far-reaching step to efficiently and effectively channel more funds to developing the Philippine basic education system, with much emphasis in the advancement of Math and Science education. Moreover, the Philippine Regulation Commission must be keen in setting higher standards in Education board exams. Given the funds, the education department must continually train teachers to ensure their effectiveness in mentoring. We've been hearing failed scores in the teachers' (re)evaluation, and this certainly is not good news.
***
For sometime, I passed up accounts of recurring Philippine social, political, and economic ills. However, I realized that being apolitical does not do any good for my community. Some region in my brain dictates that I should revive the dying social activist in me. Time to take action.

I was supposed to meet up with some people last night at
Coffee Bean GB3, but I didn’t make it on time…hehe! I went to the place past 10pm without having an idea that the people would meet up at 7:30 and leave early so people working on graveyard shift could go back to the office.
Oh well, reason was I couldn’t reach
Silver Ginn through his mobile phone to confirm what time we were supposed to meet, so I just headed to the gym after work around 8:30, finished around 10, and then set off for
Greenbelt 3.
Anyway, I saw no trail of Silver Ginn, so I left the place and dragged myself to Kitchen. Of course, I didn’t care if I was such a loner having dinner on a Friday night when everybody else was in party mood. Even so, I just amused myself of the restaurant’s interiors while discreetly listening in to some networker's sales pitch to his "downline" rookies (they're everywhere!!!). And oh, surely the tap water bottle was fashionably out of the ordinary (check photo below). up:
gucci handbags Had Coffee Bean’s vanilla Ice Blended as I capped the night. I was almost certainly bored and lost in space when I had one, because when I got home past midnight, I couldn’t figure why I ordered for such a pricey yet basic cold beverage. Oh man!
Tap water, please. =)
Your Birthdate: March 29 |
Your birthday on the 29th adds a tone of idealism to your nature. up:gucci bags
You are imaginative and creative, but rather uncomfortable in the business world.
You are very aware and sensitive, with outstanding intuitive skills and analytical abilities.
The 29 reduces to 11, one of the master numbers which often produces much nervous tension.
This is the birthday of the dreamer rather than the doer.
You do, however, work very well with people. |

Broken Flask of Caustic Soda
I was reading the Singapore city guide on
The Economist's online edition when I first read about Chen Jiahao's case with his
caustic soda blog. I attempted to check the post, but I was too unfortunate to find out that he shut the entire blog down. I did some research and got some second hand information from various sources, one of which is
Channel News Asia's. But, I don't think this report unearthens all the facts so I had to conscientiously dig for more. up:
gucci bags
Luckily, the
Sassy Lawyer's entry on the blog case popped up amongst google search results. I was surprised that this story was interesting subject among peers in the blogosphere around first week of May (
so ayun, mejo huli na naman ako sa balita). Anyhow, you may read her entry; scroll down to the section where she captured (in verbatim) Chen Jiahao's email addressed to Valerie Tan for her biased report.
This case unmistakably italicizes two important phrases:
freedom of expression and
ethics in journalism.
Firstly, I think of freedom of expression, maybe because, Singaporean government agencies, known for its ways to file defamation lawsuits against the media could be "notoriously" maneuvering to curtail the freedom of people in the blogosphere. Secondly, I suppose Mr. Chen has the right to claim that Channel News Asia was not true to their journalist's creed for all the one-sided press releases.
Regarding my stand, I'm undecided. Too ill-fated to not possess some first hand essentials. (
Takot ma-shut down
ang blog.
haha!)
